Default Plug-In Delay, Latency

I'm experiencing a delay/latency when using my midi keyboard to play synths in Reason Adapted and Sampletank. Reduced my H/W buffer to 512 samples and have maximized the CPU usage. Getting pops and cut-outs when decreasing buffer to 256 and 128 samples. I have 1 gig of RAM.

Are there any other settings I can adjust to minimize the latency? Will increasing my RAM help? Will PT LE 7.0 help with my latency problem?

Thanks

I use Reason 3.0.4 and it shuts down (stops) my PTLE6.9 record or playback, every time. Propellhead tech is useless as is Digi. I'm waiting for 7.0 to see if it solves any Reason problems, if not, I'll sell it.

Will RTAS virtual instrument plug-ins have less latency in PT LE 7.0? How much does RAM affect latency?

RAM won't affect latency, but it will affect softsamplers with samples loaded into memory at low buffer settings. More RAM should allow you to lower your buffer settings without the crackles and pops.

I know there is a minimum, but how much RAM works best with PT LE 6.9? How much RAM would I need to run a H/W Buffer of 128 samples without getting the crackles and pops? 1.5 Gigs, 2 Gigs? Thanks for your help.

I don't think you understand what I was saying. It's not PT that is using the RAM, it's the samples you are loading. PT itself works best with 512MB of RAM, but you're not just using PT, you're using reason AND sampletank, loading samples into them, and that is all taking up more resources. You never mentioned which samples you were using or how big they were, or which devices (and how many) you had loaded into the reason rack. You also never mentioned the rest of the specs of your system; CPU speed, hard drives, etc., which all play a part in the equation, so quite honestly, I'm just guessing about the RAM.

I found at times I was trying to push my system too far and running into similar problems with loading multiple samples, so I upped the RAM in my rig to 2GB. It works for me, but YMMV.

Knowing more information about your system, and the sessions you are having problems with (samplerate of the session, how many tracks, which samples you are loading exactly, which softsynths, etc etc) might help narrow down a solution for you.

if you dont known your memory situation open up task manager and have a look.
1GB RAM is plenty of most sessions as long as you have your virtual memory configured properly
