Default New Waves Loudness Meter for Post

Just got an email on this. Thought the Post guys would be interested. I don't know what half this stuff means, but hopefully it's something interesting for you.

Clearly ripping off the GUIs of CEDAR & DMGAudio wasn't enough, so they felt it was time to do DMM.

Cool Re: New Waves Loudness Meter for Post

Yeah.... Looks interesting.

I find it a bit bizarre that it's only included in the Mercury bundle though, and not also in the Broadcast and Production bundle....

I do get that everything ends up free for Mercury users (and that's fine), but surely this falls solely in the B&P remit...?

.... Or maybe it's just that I own the B&P bundle, and not Mercury, and I'm just a bit jealous....

Well priced compared to other trustable softwares (assuming WLM is trustable). Good features, especially "Follow Transport". I've wished for that feature for YEARS. I might have to check it out.

That's what I want to know too.

Why would I pick this over NuGenaudio's VisLM ? That does have an audiosuite component for offline scanning and logging though I hope the Waves plugin has that too. NuGen also updates their plugins on a regular basis, fixing bugs and bringing in new, useful features very quickly.

Anyone who's trying this, please report back.

Also - why would you buy this when Dolby previewed their Dolby Media Emulator at AES, talking a similar price point for a plugin that will allow previewing of encode decode passes AS WELL as metering (if I understand it correctly from the various bits of info around the web).
Dolby have also said they are committed to AAX as a format, as opposed to waves.
No way I would buy this over what the competition is doing. Waves are out of their mind, must be rushing it to market to beat dolby at their own game.
From the dolby site:
With the Dolby Media Emulator, you can:

- Monitor in real time exactly what your customer ultimately hears
- Evaluate metadata that has been created throughout the production, postproduction, and distribution process
- Determine the dialogue normalization (dialnorm) value using the ITU-R BS.1770-2 algorithm via the included meter
- Decode using the Dolby Pro Logic® II family of matrix surround sound technologies to allow proper monitoring of Lt/Rt sources and downmixes from all other sources

AFAIK the waves plug doesn't log

Get VISLM-H (now ilock-able) - the loudness metering muther!

I agree with Bret - I think the dolby plug looks cool too - but for me I would use it for downmix simulation monitoring - a la dolby toolbox wotsit.

cheers

Guys, this plug-in is great. I'm demoing it right now. It's got true peak and LEQ(m) measurement plus dialogue/whole program/EBU modes as well as the latest broadcast standards. You can export logs as well. It comes in at just over half of Nugen's price from authorized dealers.

hi Nate, I cannot test it here
Could you report if it can do faster-than-realtime measurement via audiosuite?

Also I think comparing the price is not fair. Nugen has history view and loudness distribution view (H version). Which is very very useful.
