Problem with Digi 001 to a Roland VS1680 via MMC
Please help!!! I am trying to connect ProTools Digi 001 to a Roland VS1680 via MMC. We have an MMC connection. Start, Stop, FF, Rewind, Play and Record all transmit. If you set each machine to their internal time code, the transport controls respond to MMC. The problem is that the digital sync is not ocurring. If you set either machine as the master, and then try to run a Play or Record command, the system either will not 'light up" the record option, or it just waits indefinitely. Either way, it will not allow us to record. How do we get the control to sync up the signal. All that we really want to accomplish is to move a session that was recorded on the Roland VS1680 into Pro Tools via the analogue outputs. Our main concern is getting the tracks to start at the same time once it is imported into Pro Tools. We are not concerned as much with digital sync as we are aligning the tracks in the proper place in the new session, and we want the machine control messages to control both transports simultaneaously.
Thanks for any help [EMAIL][email protected] |

Re: Problem with Digi 001 to a Roland VS1680 via MMC
Dear Scotth - You said "All that we really want to accomplish is to move a session that was recorded on the Roland VS1680 into Pro Tools via the analogue outputs."
I have done the 1680 -> digi001 transfer after setting the outputs on the 1680 to be direct outs on the 1-8 RCA jacks on the back panel. After connecting the outputs of the 1680 to the inputs of the digi001 you can just push "play" on the Roland then push "record" on the digi001? The tracks get transfered with the alignment that they had on the 1680. You can realign on the digi if you need to but transferring this way will give you the alignment that you had on the 1680. I don't know what an MMC is so I might be missing what you are saying but I believe this will do what you want. Good luck, dcarlson247 |

Re: Problem with Digi 001 to a Roland VS1680 via MMC
I greatly appreciate the reply. However the real problem is in syncing up the next 8 tracks with the first group. I have not tried, but have been told that manually dragging all of the tracks to have the exact start time would, well, be a drag. In other words if I just record all of the tracks over 8 at a time how will I have a synced start time for everything?

Re: Problem with Digi 001 to a Roland VS1680 via MMC
OK - I was missing the part about it being a second group of 8 tracks. If you do end up not figuring out the MMC I guess you'll just have to do it by ear. Selecting all 8 tracks and then using the nudge would probably get you there but you, more than likely, already know that.
Good luck... |
