Default playback delay when quicktine is online

Hi all,

I found a similar problem with the Mac guys, but working on PC I have also troubles with quicktime playback. When a QT is on a video track, it takes about 3 seconds after I pressed play before the system starts. With the video track offline, it is no problem.

I am on Pro Tools 7.3.1cs7 on PC, Pro Tools LE, DV Toolkit 2.

Anyone with similar problems?

When usin a videocodec like dv or jpg there are no delays.
If you use H264 or other modern codecs on slow cpu machines, a delay will occur.
But 3 seconds is much. What CPU do you have, Ram, Quicktime version

If scrolling gets also slowly, you definitly have a codec problem!

Using Quicktime 7, updating as we speak.

A bit strange the PC wizard says I have only 2 G Ram, While I have 4 inside and my task manager also says 4

Quicktime files are supplied by video editor, don't really know what codec he used...

select another soundcard (in- and output) in the windows preferences than the digicore audiomanager.
at least this causes the problem in macOSX

open the file in QT then open the Inspector (control+i I believe on PC) this should tell you the codec used, length, bit-rate

I had this happen to me on 2 systems... once it started no matter what codec etc, I'd get a pause before playback. Clean install of protools fixed it.

good luck

if your ram is reading incorrectly then try and re-seat them in another order. this happens sometimes.

also, if they're on some sort of board, make sure you have them in-line without gaps (ram placeholders) in between.

Go to system prefs / sound and put your output in internal speakers! restart Protools.

I Find this happens when some part of the current session regarding video in the session gets corrupted. Save time:
Save Copy in. Reboot PT/or computer. It goes away. Especially check with H264, which needs to be set to "key every frame"
PT 9.05 and those before!
