Default Re: Pro Tools 11 freezes when trying to use several tools

i have used ExFat here on a MAC without issues and also FAT32 without issues ..

but Musicman is correct - safer way is OS Extended journaled on a Mac ...

are you moving files between a MAC and a PC ??? the only reason i can see formatting in ExFat ..

just curious .. john

MacDrive works so well it's practically invisible. All my external record drives are formatted to HFS+, even though I use PC at home... Makes it much easier to transfer to and from the Mac-based PT systems we track with.

I've had numerous issues trying to use drives using FAT32 or exFAT, once I copied the sessions to Mac OS Journaled the problems disappeared. Something is fawked with the handling of those format types in PT11. I've seen similar problems to yours (on both PC and Mac!), and also a few others:

- Workspace would not show audio files on the drive, I could see them in the finder but PT could not database them.
- Problems with the building of waveform overviews, importing files from an exFAT drive, the files would play, but the waveform overview calculations in the Task window would just sit there endlessly, never displaying the waveforms.

I strongly urge anyone to NOT use FAT32 or exFAT drives with PT11, I used to do it all the time with past versions but something is not right with PT11 in this regard. Bummer because I do work cross platform sometimes. Luckily, I'm always going from recording on a PC rig and then mixing on a Mac rig, so the Mac will read (but not write to) the NTFS drives, so saving a copy of the session to a Mac OS Extended Journaled drive works out just fine.

Oh, thank you for your solution !
Actually, for the moment I'm using it on Windows too, so I can't change the format to keep compatibility on the both plateforms...
But this is really nice to know that !
