Thanks

OK, what benchmark did you run first of all?

When was the last time you defragged your disks or ran some utility like DiskWarrior on them?

Kamy,

The news is:

1. The speed decrease doesn't affect your ability to get the most out of PTLe. It doesn't restrict the number of simultaneous tracks or the number of plug-ins in any way.

2. If you need to capture full frame video , or even using Photoshop w/ giant images (like 100MB) where the slowdown might be noticeable, you can create a separate extension set (I call mine "Graphics Speed") that doesn't include the Digisystem Init.

Maybe Digi will rewrite it in the future, but so far the above solution seems to have worked for everyone. It hasn't been a big deal to me...

SO, this disk slow down thing efects ALL g4's?
EVEN AGP sawtooth machines?
So, this is why I can never capture with Final Cut Pro without getting "disk is too slow" warnings... THAT SUCKS ASS.

Some thoughts for you guys:

Stink: making a separate extension set for Final Cut Pro takes all of 5 minutes - then no more sucking!

Kamy: It sounds like your problems # 2 and #3 are memory allocation problems; I have almost the same setup as yours, but only 192MB of RAM and I don't get out-of-memory erros errors unless I have a bunch of applications open simultaneously (so that all of my RAM is used up). See the Apple menu "About this Computer " to see how your memory is being used.

Are you using the "Mac OS Base" extension set + just the digi extensions for your PT Le sessions? Is the disk cache in the memory control panel set to 512k? (etc, as the digi installation instructions suggest).

Also, the use of non-digi approved video cards (like the XCLAIM) in AGP G4's has caused numerous problems because of an Apple-related problem. Some, like myself are getting away with it, but perhaps ReBirth exposes the problem??

Sometimes troubleshooting complex setups can take some time. I for one have had minimal problems; just the Waves plug-in exploding sounds. So I know that trouble-free operation is possible.

Good luck,

Jeff D.

Hi jeff,

Do you know , when It sucks for me?
1) My ReBirth won't quit after a work.
2) Freezing upon spooling for a print
( message : no enough memory available)
3) Upon working with MS Office
(message: not enough memory for MS shared
Library)

I know that it doensn't seem refer to the disk performance, but after disabling of the damn DSI , everything works fine.

I create of course other extension sets and I can live with them, but I can not live with not having PTLE and RB at the same time and being forced to reset each time after using my ReBirth. And I suppose this flaw affect all user with a software synth, which can be considewred as a major bug in the time of increasing CPU power and growing software applications .
I hope you have my point.
