Default easy way to convert a real kik drum into a midi file with 7

hay was woundering if anyone had a methoed or knew of a plug in that could convert a recored kick into a midi file for triggering a sampled kick as a replacement in pro tools 7.3. i havn't had a drum problem like this in a long time and was hoping that there was a simpler way in pro tools to do it than the old school way with a gate.
thanks

I don't think it is possible in pt, the only way I can think of is to somehow get a midi triggered gate which then transmits info to a new midi track.

It is possible in Logic with the audio>midi function. Something like sound replacer does what you are talking about.

In case you got the FXpansion VST to RTAS wrapper: there is several free VST plug ins, that can do this. It is also possible with Melodyne, or with an external drum-to-midi interface like Alesis D4 etc. Maybe you have something like this in your setup...
Or try to get the 14-day trial version of Sound Replacer or TL Drum Rehab.

I have been doing it in Logic for years. Now there is a new way by using Melodyne.
Load the drum track and choose file: export as midi file
