TLM-103...should I?
I have been wanting to upgrade my mic cabinet a bit. I do mostly Vocals (Pop, R&B, Rap) wih some instrumental recording (Sax, trp). I've been thionking about picking up a TLM-103 and am feeling the burning desire to do so today. Is there another mic in the same price range that I should be considering? I can get the TLM-103 from AMS for $899 (I'll use the payment plan cause I'm poor).
more info - I currently use a Shure KSM32 for most things. I have a couple Marshall mics and a Nady mic that actually sounds pretty decent. I use the pre's on the 001 or my Digimax. I'll be picking up a better pre in the next month or so. Currently looking at the Vintech 1272. Opinons please....

Re: TLM-103...should I?
The TLM -103 is supposed to be a great mic! I have been keeping my eye on it...however, I have also been looking at the Baby Bottle by Blue.
If anyone has any info on either of these mics are any personal comparisons, it would be great to hear about... Thanks a lot...Scott

Re: TLM-103...should I?
I quite possibly use the TLM-103 more than any other mic. It sounds great running through a Neve, so im sure that paired up with a Vintech it will also sound smoking. I say...go for it. The payment plans make good sense for those of us who have problems coughing up a grand for a piece of gear.
I've heard good things about the Baby Bottle, but I havent ever used it. Generally, I've liked Blue mics quite well though. Just my 2 cents, ev

Re: TLM-103...should I?
AMS rocks! I buy most of my stuff there and yeah, that payment plan has allowed me more freedom for certain items. Thinking about that same mic as well...

Re: TLM-103...should I?
It's funny because I've been looking at buying this mic as well. It's either the 103 or the Kiwi to pair with my Avalon 737... sweet.

Re: TLM-103...should I?
I purchased a Neumann TLM 103 shortly after they came out. It has been my main mic for almost everything since. I use it on vocals, acoustic guitar, orchestras, choirs, piano, etc. Many of the vocalists have very positive comments about this mic. It seems to have that hard to find yet much sought after "sweet spot." Everything seems to sound good through it. I often simply connect it to my Mackie analog 8 bus with a flat EQ setting and I get this wonderful sound. I don't need to use an expensive and esoteric preamp unless I want to color the sound differently. More often, I like the the mic with minimal artifacts added. I highly recommend this mic to everyone.
