Default pc to mac ???

my pc computer is crashing. im thinking about keeping my pc for downloading and internet gaming . and buying a mac g5 just for protools only. 2.0 ghz superdrive. it seems expensive $2700. can anyone suggest what i should do? as far as computerwise. i wanted to wait for a g5 notebook but i dont see one anytime soon.SO ANOTHER GOOD QUESTION.i currently own a digi 002r which was working great with windows xp. until i got attacked by crashes. my question is : if i get a g5 will my drivers i have for mac work? i believe it is 6.1 for osx. i would appreciate any help i am new to the mac world. my friends all have g4 notebooks and seem to be doing fine with their music and such. thats what brought me to thinking about a g5 .. wheres the g5 notebook though?>?????

Rather than spend the money on a G5 you could get a G4.

That's what I did. I went from an "Allenstein" PC to a basically stock G4.

I couldn't be happier. With Mac OSX (Panther) you will probably have to upgrade some plug-ins as well as your PTLE software. For 6.0 or higher PTLE customers I believe it's a free download to the newest version. For my Waves bundle I'm having to pay about $200 to upgrade my Gold Bundle, but they are throwing in additional plugs so it's worth it.

Just check out the "compatability" resources on this site and make a sound purchase. As a former Win XP user now on Mac I could not be happier.

There are loads of guys running stable (well so they say) systems in the PC forum. Why don't you optimise your system? reinstall? get rid of ravenshield?:) maybe you've tried all that.

Here's a link to The Apple Store --click on "Powerbook", and one for Digidesign compatibility documents .

Take the advice of someone who didn't, and get the Superdrive so that you can burn DVDs.

i heard i can buy my own dvd burner. what the difference if i dont get a superdrive.

the reason i want this g4 is because of simplicity and because my pc is crashing.

i use my pc for networking and internet gaming/downloading.

i want a mac specifically just for a ptle rig/ and reason.

there are a few other things id use my mac for such as mp3's and pics.
thats probably it though. just music. simple

keep my pc as the crash test dummy downloader.

i need to know whats the best g4 for my 002r any experience with this system? on a g4 what processor should it be to run ptle/reason/cubase/etc. I NEED A POWERHOUSE CHEAP!!!!!

If you click on the compatibility documents link in my last post, then click on Mac 10.2.3 (the latest Mac operating system, assuming you'll be buying a new computer), you'll be told which computer is best. Macs are all-in-one computers: you don't build them from different components like you can a PC; that's a big reason why "it just works."

Check out iBooks at the Apple Store, too.

My system works fine. But the 17" 1GHz Powerbook is expensive.
