As a concession to the "angry mob", they bent the rules so that you could get a back dated upgrade to PT10, (until 31st December.) In the past, you would only be entitled to future upgrades AFTER the purchase of the ASS.

Well they dont do what they can.. They do what is comfortable. Getting what you really WANT is seldom achieved with comfort !

I would have bought it if it was 99 too. Too much. Not buying until 64bit. Maybe not even that. I have VE Pro.

Well, not so much. You could go to another store. If the only 2 options in a town are either High Prices, or Low Quality, another retailer will come and scoop up business from each.

There is no need to stick with a decision if you are not getting the return you want. That is the "sunken cost theory" and it has destroyed many a business, consumer, and country.

3. Don't purchase either and use what you already have.

Or just don't buy it, and don't get upset about it. PT9 has no idea that PT10 was released.

Its catharsis for many people. "Fairness" does not exist. Only a perception by a majority.

No need to organize, just don't buy it. Or if you must have it, sit it out a few months and wait for PT10 to appear on eBay for less. The holiday season is coming around and retailers are always putting up 15%, 20%, 30% off coupons. Just wait it out if you want it but don't want to pay full price.

There is no stronger message than a message by the market. So if you don't like the price, don't buy it. Easy. That doesn't mean Avid will budge, but you won't be subsidizing their decisions.

IT was already spiraling towards rock bottom BEFORE the PT 10 release!
The people contemplating buying stock does NOT need to read the DUC to figure out that AVIDs stock won't skyrocket when releasing something that will disturb its own ecosystem.

You're a beautiful person and I genuinely love that you are willing to try to defend Avid's policies when there's a deafening silence from your coworkers.

But....
Two things:

First, the release date and pricing of the upgrades had been kept a mystery for YEARS (I assume because they didn't want the competition to steal Avid's idea to go 64 bit or let on that they would release new hardware). Aside from being clairvoyant, there was no way way for possibly budget for PT10 or HDX.

Second, I know that you like mentioning the number of sales it takes to hit the charts, but that's due to piracy (and a moral disconnect between stealing a physical product versus stealing a digital one). I think everyone agrees that from a studio perspective things would be better if people didn't download digital products illegally and we agree that it has led to a huge decrease in the revenues of studios, labels and artists. But a drop in studio revenues should probably lead to a drop in the price of their gear according to basic economics. Right? And yes, I understand and totally agree that the HDX cards deliver on that basic premise, but can the update pricing on the software?
