Default XPand! Patch Changes

Does Xpand! respond to Program Change data on a MIDI track? I insert a program change on the track, but it is ignored. I also tried the Program Select in the track header area. No Response.

Also, there are no names in the patchlist, just 0 to 127, and bank selection is greyed out.

Something simple, no doubt, but I'd appreciate a pointer.

Thanks.

Ray

Hi,

Xpand won't do patch changes! infact i don't think any VI's do patch changes.

R.E. Your patch names not showing! re-install Xpand, manually remove xpand from the plugins folder...Mackintosh HD/LIbrary/Apps support/Digidesign/Plugins and also remove the xpand data file from the same Digidesign folder as above. The re-install Xpand (the latest version 1.0.1)

Thanks for the reply and confirmation.

FYI, I'm running a demo of B4-II, and it does respond to program change. Although, when you pop open the program change window on the MIDI track, it's just patch numbers, no names.

This is what I was referring to with Xpand! The patch names do come up when you select the patch from the plugin window, but not in the Program Change list. Since it doesn't respond, the lack of names is irrelevant.

I'm curious now about which other VI's do or don't respond... Time for a little experiment.

Thanks again.

Ray

You would need to create .midnam files for the patch names to appear in that list. I'm really not sure if/how that would work with VIs.

ok, I'm on a mission to get Xpand2 to respond to MIDI program changes.
I see no reason for it not to support it, and there are definitely reasons to support it.

My reason for wanting it is this: I need to step through hundreds of patches to find just the right one. I have a fancy new AxiomPro controller with a bazillion controls, and I can do almost everything without touching the mouse/keyboard - expect stepping through the patches !.

The wierd thing is - Xpand2 already does support MIDI program change, just not without having to first use the mouse to open up the "settings" dialogue, and even in this case, I need to grab the mouse again if I find what I like, to click "Done". So why not support MIDI program change in normal play mode ?

Is there an issue because the instrument support more than 128 patches per 'folder' ? and perhaps the developers did not want to limit to 128, or otherwise devise a way to select past 128 ? I would rather have that limit, with support for MIDI program change in play mode. Obviously they can't impose that limit now, since they've shipped a bazillion. However, they still could add the support for MIDI program change up to 128, and just not be able to select those patches in folders above 128. Could also support bank selects ?

Developers, please listen, MIDI program change here is a no brainer. Gotta have this.

Thanks.

yes me too!!! I wanted to use some of the AIR Instruments in a live-environement. But without the ability to receive program-changes, this is not possible! For me this is a huge lack. So it is the reason for me to cut with AIR instruments and switch to NI. I don't like to do it, but i have to.

I find for using Xpand in a live environment MIDI program change is absolutely nesessary. I have VSTI's that are able to do this and it is a shame that the RTAS instruments by Avid cannot do this as well.
