Default punching in and punching out

Im tryna punch in some vocals on my song......when i clicked on pre roll, it seemed pretty straight forward.....i just turned on pre roll, and .i just clicked on the top bar til the little arrow showed up, and the recording punched in at that point.....but its punching out that im having trouble with,......i assumed that post roll would be used for punching out.....but when i clicked post roll, and clicked an arrow for that point, when i put the song at the start to record, the arrow seemed to go to the start, so when i recorded, it didnt punch out.......i have the second verse recorded, and i wanna sing the first verse and the chorus, with out erasing the start of the second verse......so i want my recording to punch out at the start of the second verse? could someone help me please?

If you highlight a selection anywhere in the timeline and then press play and record Pro Tools will record for exactly the length of your selection. You can use pre- roll and post-roll to play before and after your selection without recording. It's all in the manual.
