Default Bought Athlon64 3200+ Did I make a mistake?

All,

I currently have a P4 2.67 with 533Mhz FSB, 1GB PC2700 RAM. I bought the Athlon 3200+ 64bit processor and the Asus K8V mobo thinking it was going to be a lot faster than my P4. Am I wrong? Did i just spend a lot of money to get the same performance?

Thanks,

s0nguy

PS. Im running Digi 002r w/6.1.1

No you need to figure out what is plugging your performance here. I'm betting on the hard drives.

Well....I havent hooked it up yet. Im not taking it out of the box If it is not going to be a LOT faster for PTLE. I am planning to get 1GB PC3200 ram with dual 120GB SATA drives.

I am noticing that the Athlon 3400 seems like a way better processor than the 3200.......I guess I just want to get the most plugins possible.

Thanks,

Aaron

Aaron,
We don't have alot of results yet with these new processors to tell how they are going to perform in the real world. I did skip the 3200 and go to the 3400 for the reason you mention though on the Best System thread. There is one 3200 that achieved over 32+25 so far so that isn't too shabby. Make sure you get the right hard drives for this setup and do your research on drives that are working well with this configuration. I'd recommend using the Hitachi SATA drives or WD SATA drives all the way around.

THanks for the reply. I was going to get 2 Seagate SATA drives and return the 3200 and get the 3400. I did a test with my P4 2.6 and I could get around 18 Waves Renaissance Channels in mono before my le rig choked.....any idea how many plugins you get

AND my question stil hsant been aswered....which gets more plugins Intel of Athlon?

Hey Aaron,
Stick with the WD or Hitachi SATA Drives for best performance with PTLE. As far as your last question, Athlon's have been more consistently high performers.
