Default stops at Initializing Audio Engine 2023.12.0

After updating to PT 2023.12.0, PT won't load, stops at Initializing Audio Engine. Made sure Windows is set to stock audio card. I get a prompt to chose engine and click Focusrite. I've trashed preferences(w/o Trasher), I've deleted and re-installed PT. CCleaner'd.

I did see note with the update about it hanging on Initializing Audio Engine be ing related to poor running hard drive, but I had no issues prior. My c drive is at 29Gb of 235GB left, that is the only issue I can come up with.

I also tried deleting PT and reverting back to 2023.9, but I get installation errors and it won't install.

Hi, welcome to DUC.

Start by reading "help us help you" up the top of each DUC web page.

*Exactly* what audio interface are you trying to use?

What exact audio interface driver/driver version is installed. You should be using an ASIO driver from Focusrite, not relying on say ASIO4ALL.

Post a SiSoft Sandra report. With all drives attached, indicate what drive in the report you are using for Audio sessions.

Hi! Thanks for the welcome. I couldn't find the 'Help Us Help You'

I'm trying to use my pair of Focusrite Scarlett 18/20s with my Faderport.

How do I find the driver info? Not using ASIO4ALL using Focusrite

I downloaded and installed SiSoft Sandra, but I have no idea how to use it!

It is in the forum header, between DUC and Avid logos.

Thanks, I totally missed it despite staring right at it.

PT 2023.12.0
Focusrite 18|20 (x2)
Presonus Faderport 16
HP Compaq 6200 Pro MT PC i5-2400 CPU @ 3.10GH
Win 10 Pro
16G mem installed
2 HDs installed 256 SSD(PT is here), 2TB used to store files

I installed the update from PT 2023.9.0 to 2023.12.0 and that is when the issue started. I've tried removing all PT stuff, and re-installed 2023.12.0. No help. I've removed everything(maybe I missed something) and tried re-installing 2023.9.0 and that leads to installation error(installation interrupted and not completed)

This computer is not well built/set up which raises concerns but there is no way to know if this is the cause of the issues.

The PC only has 11GB of memory, not 16GB, although memory needs vary so much, I would want to see 16GB minimum, maybe much more if you are intending to do much work with virtual instruments.

And the memory DIMMs are a total mess, non-matched memory on different memory channels, non-matched timing, and non-matched exact DIMMs. These ideally should be identical make/model DIMMs, ideally known/claimed to work in this computer/motherboard. Memory errors can cause potentially lots of problems, but probably not what you are seeing.

Sandra does not show any SSD. Is is portable and you forgot to connect it? And all your sessions are on that SSD? You cannot install Pro Tools itself anywhere besides on C: If the 2TB HDD shown in Sandra is where you have your sessions stored... that is only a 5400 RPM drive and not suitable as an audio drive. Disk cache can mask many IO performance issues, but with only 11GB of memory is not a real option (leave set to "normal").

Again, what exact driver versions do you have installed for the Focusright 18i20? uninstall and reinstall the latest version.. Then with only one 18i20 physically connected to the computer... Trash prefs and just start Pro Tools with no session, hold down the N key while Pro Tools is starting and select the 18i20 in the playback engine dialog when that appears. If there are multiple options in the playback engine dialog that could be the 18i20 try them all. If that does not work try the other 18i20.

Can you give the exact text of any error messages.

If this can't be resolved soon you may well want to restore from backup or do a clean Windows install, it may be faster than trying to find the problem. Ideally do a full clean install from a Microsoft Windows installer, install on a spare drive/partition with the bare minimum drivers needed, Pro Tools and test that. If it works OK you can migrate your other stuff to this partition.

Given you really should be cleaning up memory and disk on this system you might just want to buy (or even better build/have built) a new PC.

Thanks so much for breaking that down for me! Yeah a bit of a Frankenstein, but even more so a basket case computer.

I deleted every single Avid file I could find and tried another older version and that got me running again, for now. I guess it's time to get a new PC. I only use PT to record my band practices and track a song here and there.

Thanks again, much appreciated!

Great you got going, I wonder which file(s) were the problem.

If you might consider building or having a PC built then see this monster thread: https://duc.avid.com/showthread.php?...+specs+results

A lot of useful info there. It's updated and covers much more than i7 and contains useful info, you just need to wade though it/start at the end and go backwards.
