Connecting multiple Venue
Hi guys!
I'm sorry for this question but I can't find an answer and I am out of time. Soo could please someone tell me if it is possible to link mutliple Venue consoles together (over 1 Mix Rack or Stage Rack) ? The idea is to have two surfaces (one for FOH and one for Monitors) connected via the same Mix Rack. The main goal is to have just one I/O rack to avoid splitters. Thanks for the help. Re: Connecting multiple Venue
Sound Rambo,
Hi. My mouse keeps flippiing out so this is attempt no. 2 Sadly this is a feature Avid very early on decided would not be an option in the Venue product line. Its literally impossible. You can look into this; there are probably still an archive of webinars on the AVID venue site that talk about this. The only option for this with Venue is analog mic splits. Its dumb, they should have thought this through. Hopefully the new SL3 live Venue platform will change this. |

Re: Connecting multiple Venue
You can make it with madi cards. I know it is not easiest way but it work.

Re: Connecting multiple Venue
So you would need lets say for the above mentioned example 1 foh console and 1 monitor console
2x Profile console 2x MixRack with 2x MADI card 1x Stage Rack Would this work? Thank you for the answers :) |

Re: Connecting multiple Venue
While its not approved, it can be done with BNC splitters. The biggest drawback is that you need to agree on WHO(which) desk/operator will be in charge of GAIN as it will need to be set by one, but FOR both consoles.

Re: Connecting multiple Venue
Here is an actual setup using Avid Madi setup and Midas digital splitter. It could probably be setup with two Avid Consoles, but I am betting it is cheaper to have a copper split.

Re: Connecting multiple Venue
This is the biggest issue with digital splits - the lack of complete independence of preamp gain. There are schemes that compensate with digital trim so the secondary console isn't affected within a certain range when one side makes a gain change. But it still isn't ideal. It would be nice if there was a stage box system that had the single XLR mic input but 2 separate preamps connected to that input. IOW, the copper split is in the stage box and the stage box is really 2 independent systems in one rack. Of course, the cost would be similar to having 2 full independent systems with copper split between them. Still, it should be an option for simplicity and at least a small reduction in costs from completely separate systems.

Re: Connecting multiple Venue
I think one of the main benefits of a digital split is the fact that there is only one preamp loading down the microphone. While every microphone is different, some will sound different when loaded by two or more preamps. Even if there are two preamps in the same box, you still with have the same loading of a copper split.
Likewise, In a festival situation you could also have two desks of different brands at FOH, and two of the same different brands at monitor world, both getting the same inputs (One copper split to hit the two different brands, one digital split each to hit the like FOH and MON consoles). This saves mating big mults multiple times during the day. I have found that if you give an touring engineer a choice of two "A" level desks, doesn't matter what they are, you will have a happier engineer. |
