Default ide and ultra drives ( once again)

ive got a 9600 running a mix plus with 2 glyph 9 gig cheetahs on an adaptec 2940 card with no problem, im about to switch to a g4 and i will transwer my scsi cards and drives to the g4, i also want to buy a very large drive for internal daily storing, inside my g4 i see an ide chain and an ulta scsi chain, which chain should i be using and what is the best drive to get any help will be greatly appreciated

I'd go with the IDE drives... cheaper and if you get a 7200rpm drive, you'll be surprised at how many of those 'stored' sessions will play back directly from that drive.

2940 in a G4 is bad news. This is not a functional configuration. Get an Atto.

The big drive is a no brainer! Get a huge IDE drive. You will be pleasantly surprised by the performance!

I'm looking at the exact same situation. I know the Adaptec 2940 won't work for ProTools, but can it live there on a PCI slot just for transfers at the Finder level without disturbing ProTools? I'm currently experimenting with Oxford 911 Firewire drives as an alternative. Hopefully, they will yield the performance I've come to expect from my 9 gig ultra-wide cheetahs.

I think you should be OK just using the 2940 for transfers, etc.
