Re: ide and ultra drives ( once again)
I'd go with the IDE drives... cheaper and if you get a 7200rpm drive, you'll be surprised at how many of those 'stored' sessions will play back directly from that drive.

Re: ide and ultra drives ( once again)
2940 in a G4 is bad news. This is not a functional configuration. Get an Atto.
The big drive is a no brainer! Get a huge IDE drive. You will be pleasantly surprised by the performance! -Eric |

Re: ide and ultra drives ( once again)
I'm looking at the exact same situation. I know the Adaptec 2940 won't work for ProTools, but can it live there on a PCI slot just for transfers at the Finder level without disturbing ProTools? I'm currently experimenting with Oxford 911 Firewire drives as an alternative. Hopefully, they will yield the performance I've come to expect from my 9 gig ultra-wide cheetahs.

Re: ide and ultra drives ( once again)
Scott,
I think you should be OK just using the 2940 for transfers, etc. Good luck! -Eric |
