Default 29.97 fps in PAL world

I've just received a quicktime with 29.97 fps and burnt in timecode. We have to record some adr here and then send the
files back to LA.
What's the correct procedure? Convert the quicktime to DV PAL 25 fps (we use the canopus) and flip timecode in PT to 29.97?

What for? As I know, the canopus can play both NTSC and PAL movies; most modern monitors and Tvs can read both PAL and NTSC; so the safest way could be to turn all devices into NTSC and play with the original session at original speed; I am not a NTSC expert, but I saw people working on NTSC project here in Pal land, and as I know nothing was converted, only NTSC/PAL switches were touched...
regards
Kuba

Really? Hm - when I try to output the NTSC DV movie through the canopus, all I'm getting is rather interesting pixel art, not unlike that "mosaic" effect in Photoshop.

IIRC the canopus has a PAL/NTSC DIP switch on the bottom, together with some other settings. Try that.
We work with 29,97 fps Quicktimes all the time and do not convert anything. Just make sure the PT timeline is set accordingly and check if the burn-in TC matches the PT TC.
Cheers

Thanks! That switch is already set to NTSC, still, all I'm getting is pixel chaos. Movie plays back fine in PT though, burnt in TC matches timeline and all, I just can't output that movie through the canopus.

are you sure your TV can lock to an NTSC signal?

the other idea is it is a field dominance issue. DV NTSC needs lower field first.

Thanks, guys! The answer is simple: I'm an idiot.
After switching to NTSC on the canopus, I simply had to unplug and
replug the FW cable again - done.
Everything's working out fine now.
