Default bounce & dither

I'd like to bounce a track (session in 48k, 24) to disk.

When the menu opens up I can select 44,1 16 bit and mp3...etc
Does PT12 do any processing like dither? Is this a proper way to do it or can/must I add a dither plugin to the channel strip?

Thanks

Not during a bounce, you need to put a dither plug on the master fader.

For Exporting of files, PT will add dither. Search the manual for a chart.

Yeah, rule of thumb is: Pro Tools dithers on export/import, does *NOT* dither on BTD conversions.

Honestly, it would be much simpler if they just gave the user the option to dither/not/noise-shaped on every import/export/btd/render operation, but that's not how it works.

Are you bouncing a single track or a full mix, and are you bouncing to 44.1/16/Mp3. You can sample rate convert within the bounce window or use a third party program to src. If you are bouncing to mp3, sometimes it's best to go right from 24 bit without dither. Mastered for Itunes does the aac conversion directly from 24bit at the native sample rate of the session, but if you do want to add dither to the bounce you would need to add it via plug-in on the track or master. _ Best WaltzMastering
