I had some bugs on Yosemite. For example the common graphic bug with the time not rolling. Or the crash when i switch anything in the playback engine with an open session. So I decided to go to El Capitan.

Everything was perfect there exept...

1) incredibly slow graphics with open plug-ins
2) vst stop working during a session if i have the edit window on one screen and the mix window on the other. The only way to make it working was to CMD+TAB and choose Finder and then PT again.

So annoying that i prefer the graphic issue on yosemite. So i had to clean reinstall it. I hope this bug will be fixed soon. If you have any news let me know and i will upgrade again!

thanks

It would be curious to know if this happens on new, (that came with El Cap installed, new), Macs...

Anybody with new Macs, running 10.11 from the store, have the same problem?
Z.

My MacBook Pro, with this problem, is brand new, and came with 10.11.2.

We need this fixed now!! Has avid confirmed this? It's a pain, and you can forget about usung the built-in compressors etc! Using Yosemite I used the quartz debug with beamsync disabled which also improved the framerate in general, it feels like the issues are linked?

Third party plug-ins such as Waves don't cause the same issue. I have trashed all preferences and re-installed Pro Tools from scratch but the problem is still present. Audio playback is unaffected, as is the playback of any video within the session. It's just the graphical display of the Pro Tools interface itself which becomes extremely sluggish.

If I have plug-ins open which cause it to slow down and I then drag a mac Finder window in front of the plug-in so it's no longer visible, I can see that the Pro Tools graphical display returns to normal, with metering and time displays etc updating as they should.

I have 64GB of RAM installed so I know it has nothing to do with this. Also, I've tried it with both my HD Native Thunderbolt/OMNI interface and with the mac's built in line output and the issue is the same.

The CPU usage remains low and is unaffected by this problem. It's purely a graphical issue and I have so far been unable to resolve it. Has anyone else experienced this?
I have contacted Avid. It is a confirmed bug that has been addressed as a critical update. Who knows if it will be fixed in the 12.4 update
.

Thanks for the info. I'll wait until we have confirmation from other users that the issue has been solved before I 'upgrade' my operating system back to El Capitan again. I would hazard a guess that the problem will still be present in 12.4.0

beware when disabling beam sync , at least on yosemite , when using
Video in a video-window.

at least on my setup : MacPro 4.1,yosemite,Nvidia GTX 680,PTHD 12.3.1
beam sync OFF results in big Video Artefacts in the video window
(3 monitor setup with one Fullscreen Video Window, DNxHD codecs).

When Beam-Sync is ON (Beam sync engaged) the video-playback problems are gone.
