Smile 2 weeks of 8.0.1 rock solid, sweeeeet

Hi,

Been over 2 weeks now on 8.0.1 and haven't had any crashes or error messages! been recording, mixing and mastering lots using TDM and RTAS plugs and even using quite a few VI's and still no problems to talk about. And since the latest version of UAD 5.4 all my UAD plugs are working trouble free as well.

Harpertown 8-core
Leopard 10.5.6
Magma PE6R4 HD6 (3 accel) host card in pci slot 4
UAD-2 Duo in computer pci slot 2
control 24
255 plugins
4 firewire 800 drives
many USB devices
5 iloks/ 2 e-license dongles
Pro tools/ itunes/ fine tunes/ snapper and safari running full-time

My only long term issue is with several RTAS hogs (L316/ PSP Neon/ some VI's) that cause the CPU meter to jump up and down and occasionally peak causing a glitch, but by placing these hogs on their own track or aux so they are accessing separate cores mostly fixes this issue. i think this is a plugin problem and not PT!!

And one small issue is PT seems to think i'm holding left click longer than i am and i keep accidently making selections, or opening up the the plugins menu instead of closing a plugin etc, so i have to be very positive with my left clicking

All in all, running Sweeeeet.

Chris,
Why the host card in Slot 4? I've got the same rig (well, only 3 cards in the magma), and haven't heard anything about using slot 4.

Oh, maybe it has to do with the UAD in there...

Hey Chris, that's great to hear. I'm having the same success. A quick question though. Which version OS version are you running? I'm still on 10.5.6 and things are fine but am wondering if installing the latest will screw anything up. Thanks in advance.

Yes it was suggested to place the UAD-2 duo card in the slot 2 (x16 slot) and the magma host card in slot 4 (4x slot) Prior to that and before i installed UAD 5.4 i was getting some glitching during playback with the uad plugs.

yes 10.5.6 here!

Don't feel the need to go any further with the OS.

Will definitely clone my system drive to test snow leopard when i think everything is ready! but with so many plugins i'm in no rush to waste time.

Thanks for the info. Unfortunately I can't sync certain things on my iPhone until I go to 10.5.7 but I think I'll play it safe with the stable P Tools on 10.5.6 for now. I'm wondering if any of the problems that some people are having with 8.0.1 are related to the version of OS that they are running.

Extremely unlikely - the changes in the OS versions were ones that wouldn't affect Pro Tools usage, at least as far as our evaluation went (which is why we were able to qualify them..).

OK, good to know, thanks. When I give it a shot I'll chime in with the results.

I'll add my voice to the affirmative. I can truthfully say that I've been working every day since 8.01 and only one crash which I attribute to Melodyne plug.

Even then I didn't bother to restart. Just started PT again and finished the days work.
I'm not changing anything until Digi announce new hardware. My system is now frozen.
As soon as they announce new hardware I will upgrade.........price permitting.
