Question Pro-tools 10, a Pro-fire, and the mac-Pro...

I have recently purchased a macbook pro with the Mountain Lion OS, Quad-core intel i7 processor speed 2.6, and 8 GB memory. I am looking to put together Protools recording for my studio. I will be recording and mixing local bands. i am looking at protools 10 and M Profire 2626 fire wire and a small control pad to start with.

will Protools 10, the Profire 2626 and my laptop work together for this?
and any experiences that people have had with a smiler set up?

Which MacBook Pro? I will assume you do not mean the retina one...

Yes, but you need to pay attention to all the requirements-go read that doc carefully. Especially disk, you should have an additional 'audio spec' drive for recording to. TO be conservative I would look for a Firewire 800 drive (must be 7200 rpm and Oxford chipset and not a "green" drive that spins down or does power management silliness, see drives from OWC, Glyph or G-Tech) and connect that to you MacBook via an Apple Thunderbolt to FireWire 800 adapter and use the built in FireWire 800 port for the 2626 so you don't have chain the interface and disk on the same Firewire bus. You could also look at thunderbolt disk but do not use hardware or software RAID. USB3 drives may work but historically USB has been problematic on the Mac and not recommended. SSD drives may work, Avid has recently just officially blessed them, but I am scheptical of how they did this, given this applies to all SSD drives and there are some really junk drives out there. I wonder how much testing and qualification Avid really did.

Macbook white Profire2626 PT10.3 Lion here. Works fine! 16 tracks recording simultaniously with no problems at all. Can't tell you how it works with 10.8...

I'm running a similar setup but not getting sound from my profire 2626. From the Mac I'm going FireWire 800 to 400 into the profire. Then 400 to 400 from the profire to my external drive. I'm running PT10 on the latest update of mountain lion OS X 10.8.2
Any thoughts on how I can fix? Thanks.
Matt
