All Tracks Keep Highlighting Issue

Hello, everytime I click anywhere on the top bar of either "Bars/Beats" or "Mins:Secs" then all of the tracks in the project keep getting highlighted. One click does this, without touching the keyboard.


Is this a bug or do I have something accidentally turned on?

This is what keeps happening.

This is expected behavior. Here's why:

You are making a selection on the ruler you have designated as the main ruler. Since "Link Timeline Selection and Edit Selection" (Shift /) is on and "Link track and edit selection" (Shift T) is on, making a timeline selection on the main ruler, also makes and edit selection (spanning all tracks) and since that edit selection spans all tracks, all tracks are selected. Make sense? Most users keep both of those options turned on and just only make selections on the main ruler if you intend to select everything in the project for something like a shuffle edit instead of using the ALL group, since making selections on the main ruler effectively works as a temporary ALL group for edit selections if timeline selection and edit selection are linked.

Not happening in 2023.6? AT least for me.

You can install an older or newer version by just renaming the app. So relabel pro tools to PT 2023.9 and install and older version and see if the behavior is the same.

As Skylar noted that happens with both "Link Timeline Selection and Edit Selection" and "Link track and edit selection" are on (highlighted)
you can deselect either one---- or leave them selected and you manually unselect all the tracks (hover over any track name and hold option while clicking )

What exactly are you wishing to do with this action? Maybe a simple change could eliminate the issue?
