HEAT - Avid, when will it be AAX? Will it work on HD|Native?

Question for Avid staff.
I have HEAT but have sold my HD system.
Is it going to be ported over to AAX?
Will it be a free upgrade?
And will it work on HD|Native or HDX only?
What is the ETA on this happening?

I doubt that this will be AAX. It is for TDM or HDX systems only. It's not really a plugin, but something that's built into the architecture of the program. So they really don't even need to convert it to AAX.

They could probably make it a plug though. I still don't get it really. I tried it for awhile. Maybe I just didn't dial it in but it didn't knock me out that I had to have it. YMMV.

Would love to hear from AVID on this....
For me it is essential to my work flow and a reason not to buy HD|Native.

Perhaps I should just stay on a HD (TDM) system for the next few years....

I thought that HDX couldn't run TDM. Seems like HEAT will have to be ported to AAX, though probably the AAX DSP flavor.

Yeah I'm waiting to hear this one too.... Need me some HEAT otherwise it's taking a step backwards. I can't even seriously consider an upgrade until this one is resolved.

What I meant was that the specs say it will only work in TDM or HDX systems, and that's it's not a normal plugin like other plugins, so it's a unique thing that may or may not have to be converted to AAX. Regardless, I would not hold your breath for this to happen. And there are other plugins that do a similar function. I would not base your decision on what system to buy or when to buy it based on this. People were making great sounding records in Protools for years before this was invented.
