Default WAV files not playing on Windows Machin

Has anyone else run into this problem? I bounced my tracks to a wav file. I then open up the wav file in Windows Media player and the counter (timer) is counting down like the track is playing but there is no audio. Even the the pretty little dancing waves on the screen are just sitting there.

I've also tried to open up the wav file in other programs and it just causes them to crash or it says they aren't properly formatted files.

I just assumed a wav file is a wav file. Any ideas?

Kevin

What resolution are the WAV files? WMP only supports 16 bit files... use iTunes to play 24 bit files.

If you're not sure.. use my Header Investigator.

BTW WAV files can have different types of encoding.. the most common is PCM, but they can be MP3, IEEE, etc.

You can try to go into the Volume Control for Windows and make sure the Wave volume is up. Sometimes it goes to 0 and you won't hear anything from your computer speakers.

If the Icon is not in the system tray, go to Control Panel - Sound and Audio Devices - Audio - sound Playback - Volume.

I know my sound was turned on...it just wasn't playing. I'll look into the bit depth.

Even if the sound was turned ON, the WAV slider may be at 0. Open the Editor where I said before to check.

I understand what you were saying. The sound was on. I could play other files...just not my ProTools wav file. Thanks for you thoughts though.

When you bounce the Protools .wav files are they 16 bit 'Stereo interleaved'?

Kevin ,

AFAIK, WMP will only play 16bit/44.1Khz stereo interleaved, regular PCM files at tops.
Did your bounce specified this format ?

What is the output destination of WMP...?

Does this same file play back from PT LE ?

good luck,

Thank you. It was set to 24bit. I bumped it down to 16bit and it is working fine.
