Default Should I hear signal with pre turned down?

The other night had some trouble controlling a snare input on an 003. Was not compressing going in.

Is it normal, with the pot turned ALL the way down on the preamp, for some of the signal to get through?

Very elementary question, but I realized I just don't know enough to know....

thanks,
grae

I don't know the exact specifications of the 003 but based on the 002 built and specs, on the Mic Inputs you have +18 dB gain when your knob is turned all the way down. However in Line mode, all the way down has 0 dB gain.

Hope a 003 owner will be more accurate.

Yes, it will pass signal, just doesn't induce gain (theoretically) prior to a/d conversion.

If it's still clipping with the preamp fully down you'll need an inline attenuation pad or mic with a pad.
