Cloning OS drive on Snow Leopard...?
Hey all,
Just getting my new machine up and running..... I read a couple of weeks ago (but can't now locate the thread) that there might be issues with cloning an OS drive under 10.6 This is my first experience of running SL, so I just wanted to check if that is in fact correct? I usually use Carbon Copy Cloner. I just want to check what others are using, and if there are in fact any specific issues to be aware of..... The thread I read suggested that under 10.6 certain OS specific things were not properly cloned.... Is this true? I guess the main thing I which concerns me is that: 1. the OS is in no way compromised 2. that my disk authorisations (specifically Native Instruments and Spectrasonics) will work on the cloned drive. Thanks |

I use SuperDuper! and I was able to clone my drive without problems under Snow Leopard. A few months back I cloned my stock 250gb to a new 500gb, switched the drives and I've been running just fine for months.

SuperDuper! here. Haven't had to restore yet but the cloning is easy peasy...

Re: Cloning OS drive on Snow Leopard...?
Yes, you can do what Rich suggests by booting from an install DVD and running Disk Utility from that.
I find that process time-consuming, and have been using Chronosync's bootable backup successfully. I clone my boot drive and bring it to another studio in order to move a mix accurately. |

Sure - no problem. I just have a second partition with an active system on it and run from there 'cause it's faster, but yea, install DVD will work. best, rich
