Default 002R and external firewire drive - please help!

Hi, sorry to ask what may be a obvious question but i am a newbe to all this. I am comtemplating getting a 002R to use with my macbook 2ghz 2gig of ram, however the macbook only has one firewire port, i noticed the 002R has 2 firwire ports, can i just use the second port to daisy chain to a external hard drive? some people say yes, others no, i dont know!

any help or info would be great, thanks

From the Digi 002 handbook, it is reccomended that you to hook up a external hardrive, you must connect the digi 002 firewire to your hardrive, then hook your other firewire port from your hardrive to your computer. I do this all the time, actually its really the only way to do it.

Yes, reading the "Getting Started" manual is a great way to begin.

I have a macbook pro and have always run the 002 straight out of my computer firewire port, and plugged the external HD into the other 002 firewire port. Ive been using this setup for 6 months now with my macbook and havent had any problems.
