hey this might be a stupid question but....
do you know why my speakers might be havinbg a decently loud static sound when I'm not playing any audio?

Tell us your complete system monitor path... including which version of Pro Tools you're running, which hardware, which OS, how Pro Tools is clocked and how you're feeding signal from Pro Tools to your speakers. Is this with all sessions, or only particular sessions? Do you have any tracks armed when this occurs? Do you have any Aux tracks when this occurs?
Does it also have this sound with headphones connected directly to your Digi hardware? Rail

Great.. you didn't answer a single one of my questions.. If it happens with no audio programs running, then turn them off.
