Default Can Pro Tools 9 Do This.?

I ditched PT 2 years or 1 year ago (can't remember) from sheer frustration of not getting a stable system with "M-Audio 410" after months of actively trying to.
Moved to Ableton LIVE, things are much more stable and also perform much better.

When news of PT9 dropped a couple months ago, I was thinking, too late AVID, Ableton LIVE fits like a glove.
and it does what I need it to do.

Well, more and more gigs are requiring me to have Pro Tools and lots of gigs coming by my way in form of PT,
I could foresee more gigs missed, so I felt it was the smart thing to do to at least leave a copy in my studio running.
since i still own it........

Can the new Pro Tools v9 do the New automation technics.?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BLrHI...ayer_embedded#!

Ive been trying to do this in Pro Tools v8.0.4 cs2.
Still saving up money for Pro Tools 9.
also, waiting for all the kinks to iron out first that everyone is reporting, before diving into 9
but wondering if this can be done on v9 or not.

Its called "Automation Scaling" and all other stuff in automation that it shows.

just curious.
thanks

I looked at that video, and it DOES NOT do "Automation Scaling"
and it DOES NOT treat the automation as if it was Audio.

please re-watch the video I posted again and see what
happens after the time of 0.25 seconds of the video.

thank you

Sorry for getting ahead of myself there! PT9 does not do the scaling automation on the video. Would be nice. Just curious tho', if more and more gigs require PT then that type automation must not be essential.

First, this automation is brand new feature.....

Just because more gigs require pro tools does not mean that,
this type of automation is not being required.

If it was not being required I would have not inquired about it.

Different people do different things,
and different kinds of music types require certain types of things.

You should not place judgment so quickly regarding this.
The more styles of ways we can use these types of tools
the more creative music can be.

remember, PT is not only used for Rock and Roll........lol

cheers

Dude, relax. It's really not that serious. I was making an observation that though the feature is very nice, your gigs require PT, which does not have it so you should be fine. That is what that means.

Its all good.
I need it that feature though.
Because I am currently going through a situation right now, that needs it.
and when a friend showed me the cubase video, it is exactly what I am in need of.

PT9 does not have this feature.
But wouldn't you get the same result from routing your automated track into an aux track and do some volume automation (i.e. scaling) on the aux track?
Not trying to tell you you don't need the feature, just trying to understand.

Cheers,

Andy

On second thought, I think PT can do SOME of the things shown in the posted video.
At least you can select some automation breakpoints and scale the whole bunch up or down using the trim tool.

Maybe the pic helps to explain what I mean...

Automation scaling is one of the things I miss most from the late, great Studio Vision. Can't believe I never thought to put in a feature request for it. Will do so now. It's a fantastic time saver if, say, you have some pan automation that swings from -100 to 100 and you want to keep the shapes but have it swing from -50 to 50. Yes, you can send the track through a new Aux with pans set narrower. But then you have an extra track that you don't actually need. Cumbersome. Automation scaling is a vastly superior solution. Also great if you put in some MIDI pitchbends, then decide you need a larger bend somewhere, so you set your instrument to a larger max pitch bend. Without Automation Scaling, you now have to re-perform all your previous bends. With it, you just scale them down by the requisite percent.

Vote for it here.
