Latency compensation
Hello on my Mac Pro ultra m2 I have a problem with latency compensation. I use 5 or 6 plug in and it’s already not capable of doing latency compensation
What could it be ? Envoyé de mon iPad en utilisant Tapatalk |

What plugins?
Do they happen to be restoration plugins? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Re: Latency compensation
May I ask what you mean by "it's not capable of doing latency compensation"?
Protools does delay compensation to make sure that all of the audio arrives at the same time when summed. The plugins determine what that delay is (in terms of the processing). Like so: Track 1: Plugin-A 10ms delay Track 2: Plugin-B 5 ms delay Track 3: Plugin-C 25 ms delay Track 3 is the "longest delay path", so PT will add 20 ms delay to Track 2 and 15ms delay to Track 1 . so the audio all arrives at the same time. The overall latency contributed by the plugins will be 25ms. The other factors that lead to latency are the hardware buffer size and any hardware inserts that you have (and the inherent latency of whatever converter(s) that you're using). Protools can't compensate for latency of the plugins themselves .. the plugin authors and the processing that they do determine that. So .. given this .. first thing . . make sure you have Delay Compensation enabled. You might be able to reduce the overall latency by reducing the hardware buffer size. But, the smaller the buffer size, the more CPU you'll need. Another thing to look into is the "Low Latency Monitoring" option.. which effectively bypasses the plugins when you're in record mode. If you really want zero latency plugin processing, you're going to have to invest in some HDX hardware, Universal Audio, Waves boxes, etc.. I'm not runnning Apple Silicon .. are you running Protools under Rosetta? That's another set of issues. jeff Last edited by jeff markham; 01-19-2024 at 08:46 PM. |
