Default VI's play slightly off when I hit record mode...

- is there a setting I'm missing cause it surely can't be right that the timing or latency is off on VI's (plus various plugins) when I pop a new track into record…this is without anything on the master too !

We need way more info or it's just a guessing game.

Were talkin' PT10 right?
HD, HDX or Native?
Mac or PC?
What exact VIs are causing the issue?
Are you using any other plug-ins on the track?
What is your PB buffer size?
How much RAM do you have installed?
Where do you store your samples?
Are you using ADC?

Things like this will help us know if your latency issue can be improved or not.

Thats always been the case with VI's when you have ADC on and using plugins that have a lot of latency.
Pro tools disables ADC on the track that is record enabled so what you record will be recorded in time. But if you just play the session the track will play out of time with latency compensated tracks (Only when it's record enabled)

Inactivate latency heavy plugins while tracking and use low buffer size.

Annoying, I know

How come it seems to work fine in logic and avid can't figure this out? I'm on HD3 here and in the other studio we just upgraded to HDX - all HD10 of course. Same thing. Logic on a laptop w built in soundcard handles this better. But a Mac Pro 8 core w HDX is all wonky when I wanna add a new VI track and try to play in time w my drums ??

Just seems like quite an overwhelming tast on most arrangements, just to add another little detail. So basically all PT users go through this ? I thought for some reason HDX would solve that

Spoke to the avid product expert at Namm about this. He's well aware of the issue and promised it will be something PT 11 will address. Question is - will I get my 5k back that the HDX update costs if they don't ???

I wish they wouldn't wait until 11 to fix this issue. I have been noticing this too. I never noticed this in Pro Tools 8, but there were a lot of quirky ADC things going on through those releases.
