Default ? on track layering and offset

anyone care to share the basics for layering (doubling) a track, and i think generally offsetting one of the tracks by ? a certain about of ? samples.

I would imagine that this will introduce random phase happenings, perhaps due to the nature of the audio?

I a absolute beginner at this type of thing.

Could you be more specific. An example of what your trying would help us help you.

Duplicating a part and shifting one of them is potentialy a very bad idea, especially if you pan them.

Cutting styli hate this kind of thing and mono compatibilty can be an issue.

This is really simple.
example: you have one mono guitar track, wish to make it have a fuller sound to it. copy the waveform from the track and pan that track hard left.
make a new mono track. paste the waveform into that track and pan it hard left. now, zoom in on the beginning of the waveforms(on pc it is ctrl-])in slip mode, use your hand tool to drag and offset one of the tracks maybe a few ms, depending on what you would like to get. unless you move it too much, you wont have any phase problems.

the panning will make it a pseudo stereo sound, but hey, it sounds fuller....
