PT 9 and a Tascam DM-3200 ...help...
Hi, I am interested in moving up to pt 9 on a windows system. I have a nice Tascam DM-3200 that I would like to use as a controller etc. It has the cards installed. I currently have a 002r and a command 8. Would I still need these items in ver 9? Would the Tascam just plug into the fire wire port in the computer and act as the command 8 does now in ver. 8. If anyone is using this setup I sure would be grateful to hear from you. A million thanks coming at you in advance, JIm

Re: PT 9 and a Tascam DM-3200 ...help...
Hi Jim,
I'm using a DM4800 via firewire with PT9 on 2 DAWs - one runs W7 64bit and the other Vista 32bit. The Vista DAW works perfectly so I know that the DM / PT9 via firewire is good. The W7 DAW has a few problems that I'm still getting the bugs out of. 32 I/O and all control surface functionality comes from the DM - the f/w port carries audio and MIDI - a USB port is required for TMCompanion and word clock. You could replace your 002r and Command 8 with the DM, but I suggest that you retain them until you get PT9 sorted with the DM (just disable the 002r in control panel). |

Re: PT 9 and a Tascam DM-3200 ...help...
Thank you, so when I finally decide to ditch the command 8 and 002r, my live instruments plug into the 3200 and will be seen in pro tools as they are when plugged into the 002r? I guess its obvious but having never used the dm3200 yet, there is a learning curve ahead. I have been using the command 8 for 5 years and have enjoyed the ease of operation but wanted to have it and mixer options joined together. Thanks again..

Re: PT 9 and a Tascam DM-3200 ...help...
I just got a new Tascam 4800 + PT9 rig. It was tricky to get working but it's fairly stable now and packs a lot of power that I'm only now beginning to tap into.
Ran my first recording session with it yesterday - was nervous as hell something would crash, but luckily the only two times PT died were immediately before and immediately after the client was in. The disconcerting thing was that I didn't have these crashes when I had my M-Audio project mix attached. It was only when the 4800 came that I started having issues. My fix was disabling my wireless card - but I didn't need to do this before. So the take away is you may have a bit of work getting it all going, but it's a totally viable set up. |

Re: PT 9 and a Tascam DM-3200 ...help...
Well I stepped up to win7 and pt 9.02. All transport and faders control work fine. I disconnected the 002r for now. Using the firewire card I am only able to upgrade the firmeware to 1.02, running the latest firmware on the dm. I tried for days to upgrade the firewire card firmware to 1.20 but no luck. Kept getting an error message x86 prossessor not compatible with my system. Next step is routing. Simple plug in one vocal mike and see what happend next, also need to rearage the monitors etc. Any pointers are well received at this end, thanks...
