Default Octopre dynamic

New here. First post.
Running a scarlett 18i20 3gen with an octopre dynamic along with PT 2021.7
Everything is working as it should except the octopre. I'm getting signal from my mics through my monitors and the meters are bouncing on the front end. But PT isn't recognizing the octopre. Meters are down and when I record it's getting nothing. I feel that I've got everything set up as it should be but am lost as to what is causing this. Hoping it's just something stupid that I'm overlooking.
I was using a saffire pro 40 before the 18i20 and wasn't having this issue.

The Octopre isn't an interface. You need to connect it to an interface so your computer can use the audio it converts. And the only way to do this with the Octopre is ADAT/Lightpipe. You'll need to connect the Octopre to your 18i20 via ADAT and make sure you get a Wordclock cable so the two device are in sync. Otherwise you'll get some terrible sounding sounds.

As above.

After you’ve confirmed physical connections are correct, you’ll then need to select those inputs on your channels so make sure everything is correct in the I/O setup.

FYI - the lightpipe connection will provide sync. Word clock is optional.

I’m using the 18i20 interface with the octopre as a clock source to get 8 more channels.
Everything seems to be working out of both units. And pro tools is recognizing the 3rd gen. Just not the octopre. I tried deleting all the I/O paths and defaulting but I must be missing something. As PT isn’t hearing anything out of the octopre.
All the mic inputs are working and I’m getting signal to my monitors.
Just not pro tools

Is your optical source set to ADAT or S/PDIF?

The Octopre is merely a mic preamp, not an interface, and can as such not be recognized by Pro Tools in any way.

The Scarlett 18i20 on the other hand is an interface, that can be detected by Pro Tools, and to which you can connect (as you presumably already have?) the Octopre via adat to get additional inputs.

If you then (I believe you might have to use the Focusrite Control application for this?) configure the 18i20 to pass the signal on this adat input (from the Octopre) to Pro Tools, and by subsequently configuring the IO Setup in Pro Tools correctly, you should be able to eventually get the signal from the Octopre to a Pro Tools track as an viable input signal that can be recorded.

That is the only way the Octopre can be ”recognized” by Pro Tools.

Please try this.

If you're talking about clock source, then you probably have this reversed. Make the Scarlett the Master clock source, i.e. set it to internal clocking. Then, the Octopre, connected via ADAT, will slave to the Scarlett's clocking; set the Octo to external clock. Try that.

Thanks everyone. Looks like I’ll need a bnc cable to run the 18i20 as a master. I’ll try these suggestions and see if I have any luck

Maybe not. The ADAT connection also carries clock signal. Just try it.
