Default Post Mixes Here (for peer evaluation/critiques)

Hey everyone,

I was thinking we should start posting some mixes we do here, and get feedback from others. Nothing like a fresh set of ears to give you a new perspective on your mixes. Let's be nice though since the purpose is to help and learn from one another rather than prove who's "the best" and who "sucks".
So I guess I'll start things off myself, here's a mix I did a little while back, hasn't been mastered yet, but here's the mix:

Sounds really good on the low end.

Here is something I just did on a mix plus rig.

I'm not sure what to say when I'm listening to this. Did someone else end up putting this on the web instead of you? When I listen to it it's REALLY distorted... but it almost sounds like you did a great mix, and it's a great sounding recording, and then someone took that CD and recorded it into a PC at WAY to hot a level and distorted it while when they were making an mp3? Anyway I really like the guitar and bass sounds, especially the clean offbeat guitar at towards the end of the song... smooth as silk... love it. But I just don't know what's going on with the distortion.. sounds like it's across the entire mix which makes me think this was done really well then somehow a bad copy was made. Anyway, I'm curious to know if that was the case. Or maybe you just went to 2 inch first and the band (being punk and all) said record it hot.. really hot, no MORE, no distort it, no that sounds GOOD.. MORE!... <lol>

Here´s one I did last year (when I was still using a Mix++ system).
The sound could be better, but I only had 2 days for the recording/arranging/mixing and mastering...

I do like my guitar parts, though. ;-)

Give it a listen.

Mantisgroove,

good work!
For my taste the bass drum is a bit too boomy (and the resonance of it could be a slight bit lower to match the key of the music...?), and the vocals could be a bit louder.
The guitars are great - maybe a bit on top timingwise here and there.

Rock on,
Peter

Truely excellent mix. Very clean and open. I especially like the lead guitar tone, and the organ sound.
