Pre/Post metering....?

I know what this does, but I was wondering how do you use this to benifit your sessions. I Mostly use Pre fader Metering. Is one better than the other at diffrent times...?

I use pre for recording and post for mixing.

lets just use a little bit of logical thinking... lets say you are recording and its peaking cuz you have that guitar track real loud push that fader up load, but the meter says ur peaking it hard so u pop that bad boy in pre fadering and u can see what is really coming in....then you know how much ur really hiding the ProTools.....okay now lets say ur mixing the audio playing the meter says its really low in meter still the in green but its louder then everything else...so u pop that bad boy in post fader and u can now see that the plugins and +6 db from the fader is making that red light stick on like bubble gum on the bottom of you shoe.....

but...its just simple thinking.....logical...
