Default Mouse and Keyboard set-up

Hey guys,

I've read that it's best to hook up the mouse and keyboard 'S/P2' instead of USB. What is 'S/P2'?

Thanks,

James

I think you might mean PS2.

PS2 was a common way of connecting keyboards and mice before USB connections became the norm - the PS2 sockets are round and often on later PCs colour coded (purple & green).

There hasn't been a PS2 socket on any of the recent computers I've bought - mostly all USB now.

More info here : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PS/2_connector

I'm guessing the reasoning behind the suggestion you've read is to take unnecessary load off the USB bus.

I think jason has it pegged. At this point, I actually use both(I use a firewire interface). I have local mouse and keyboard on USB cables, then I have 30' PS2 cables(with a matching VGA cable) and run a second monitor/mouse/keyboard in the next room. This makes it easy to run a PT session from behind my drum kit
