How Do I work with REX Files in 7.1?
I'm running Pro Tools 7.1 and I know you are supposed to be able to use REX files in Tick based tracks. I have the REX Collective that came with Pro Tools. I have the REX file copied in my Audio Folder (Still as a REX file). I have a book that says that you can use Import Audio to track but when I do this Pro Tools converts the track because it says that it cannot work with files in that format. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.

Re: How Do I work with REX Files in 7.1?
i am not sure if 7.1 will work with rex, but if it does, drag and drop it on an audio track. (probably mono) this is one of the COOLEST feature they have given us in a long time, even though every one else had it for years.

Re: How Do I work with REX Files in 7.1?
REX files are Propellerhead Reason's proprietary encapsulation format for WAV data with sample cuts and tempo markers. You have to install Reason Adapted, or Reason Full, and patch the output of the REX sampler to a MIDI track in ProTools via ReWire.

Re: How Do I work with REX Files in 7.1?
You can also import it as a "region group" to an audio track. It shows up like slices and they
are grouped as one region. If you want to work on the slices you have to "ungroup" the region and then move the slices to your liking. Or just quantize it just like midi. After you are finished you can "regroup" it again. I´m not sure if you have to create a new group after changing the old one but you´ll find out. It will follow your tempo changes perfectly. Peter |

It will really do that? I'll have to try it. Sounds very intruiging if it will do that

Re: How Do I work with REX Files in 7.1?
Yes, but you can not load anything from Reason. It has it´s own format.
So, if you only have Reason files you´re stuck with that. You have to use Reason to play them as you described. The only difference is that you work with midi events. If you want to do your own REX files you will need Recycle also from Propellerhead. It will slice any loop or audiofile for you.Remember that the audio track must be tickbased to make the loop follow the tempo. But serch the net, I think thera are REX files for download here and there wich you can import into PT. Her is a good link for Rex files http://www.loopmasters.com/Rex-Downloads.asp Peter |

Re: How Do I work with REX Files in 7.1?
I downloaded some rx2 files which are stereo REX files and all I had to do was drag the unzipped files into a stereo track that I had in Pro Tools. Simple as could be. Thanks for the suggestions.

Re: How Do I work with REX Files in 7.1?
I would definitely recommend upgrading to 7.3 for this. Earlier versions of he Pro Tools software (like 7.1) did not automatically crossfade the slices of the REX or ACID files. This functionality is MUCH improved in 7.3, IMHO.
