Default Audio File Store

I'm back after a long break

I'm using Pro Tools Artist on my Mac

I start a new session and I import some audio files I have from a Hard Drive I saved

After I save the session and disconnect the HD the files don't show up in the session anymore. In the previous versions of PT it would save any imported audio in the session folder.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks

You need to tell Pro Tools to copy audio content when you import it so it copies the file into your session folder. You can set it to always do this, and that is a good idea.

If you have sessions with stuff in unknown places do a save copy in to put the media in the session folder. You need to understand the difference between Save As and Save Copy In.

All this is discussed in the Pro Tools reference guide.

If you have old sessions on external drives you should be trying to work as safely as possible. Mount that drive read only, copy sessions from there to your fast internal SSD. Return the external drive to its save hiding place when not in use. Hopefully there are multiple backups already of these drives.

(A) Do you have “copy files on import” checked in your preferences?
(B) Even if you did do (A) I’ve found it’s still best to drag the files into the main session folder anyway. “Copy on import” hasn’t worked reliably for me.

I did have copy on import checked but it did not work.

I dragged them as suggested and used Save copy instead of save as and it worked

Thanks, guys
