Default Re: Best Desktops for PTLE

I'm about to order the Allenstein machine, but wanted to make sure about a few things.

Should the WD drives be IDE or SATA? SATA are better right?

The AMD chip should be the one with 1mb Level 2 Cache I'm assuming?

Is the video card I picked below okay?

Can anyone recommend a good full-sized tower because I think I'll have a few HDs that will need to fit and I don't know if I can fit them in this one that Allen recommends.

Hey everyone... I'm currently using MBOX PT 6.4 and I'm going to buy a new computer... I was looking for prices and found the following:

(Processors only)

AMD 64 + 3000 = 174.00
Pentium 4 3.0ghz = 192.00
AMD Athlon XP 3000 = 118.00
with the one I choose I will add 1024MB Ram and a 80GB hard drive.

1. Is there a BIG diference between AMD 64 3000 and 3400??

2. What's my best choice here?

3. Anybody using AMD 64 yet? how does it work with PT?

Thanks,
Antonio

Allen,

Anybody successfully using a dual CPU system...preferably AMD??

I would like to be able to run PTLE on one cpu and effects/synths on the other.

cheers,

dave
Hey Dave,
There are a few people using dual systems, but they aren't getting as good of results as a single AMD 64 3400 Clawhammer processor at this time.

I don't have to worry about video card compatability right? I wanna get a 128mb vid card instead of the 64mb that is recommended in the Allen Machine.
I'd recommend sticking with the ATI and NVidia cards at this time. ATI cards 9200 series and above have worked great with PTLE.

allen..

I have nearly the same setup as you recommend. with the asus k8v se deluxe mb.

I have recently got som problems with my 002rack

It worked ok in the beginning, but then something happend. every time I had closed a session, and wanted to quit pt i got a errer like this:

program error
a fatal exception has ocurred
pro tools must exit
a log file has been written to.....etc

then I click ok button, and another window shows up:

memory could not be read( and some numbers, letters etc)

I uninstalled pt, and thought it would fix the problem, but it seems not to.
I still get the error message every time I quit pt.

Is there something wrong with the firewire?

also the 002r doesnt connect until I launch ptle.

everytime it connects it makes alot of clicks...

another thing is a few times my computer freeze, and I cant do anything, mouse, key,(clt+alt+delete) doesnt work. Ijust have to restart my computer manually

any Ideas?????

thanks

I'd recommend reinstalling Win XP and this time set it up for Standard PC.

Allen

This is nothing new. Has been going on for years. When it is low stock up on it.

www.crucial.com has fairly consistent pricing also.
