Default PT for Sound design

I am looking at Sound design for adverts etc and wondered if most engineers do this all in PT?

Im talking about weird amospheric sounds/metallic ambience/that you hear on feature films and adverts, all synced to picture.

I take it all this is done within PT as part of this industry?

But are sounds re-pitched etc in PT itself and sculpted? or is Reaktor used or smoehting like that, and recorded into PT.

I use Sony Acid a little and any sound in there can be re-pitched up and down to make fx easier, Why the Elastic Audio HASNT got a pitch shifting setting i dont know?! I suppose this could be on the cards?

So what are people using? synths? or Sample CD's for foley/sound design? or are they using PT to mangle stuff within the edit window?

Im on Mac with PTLE at the moment, and just getting into PT..

Hi Buckaroo,
The answer is "all of the above". Every tool you have in your toolbox. And the more tools you know how to use, the better

Have fun, and good luck!

I use PT on a mac and I used wavelab, and acid 4ever on a PC to do tricky sound design, because of acid's elastic genious......I love PT for editing, and recording.....

Now comes Pro tools 7.4 and their elastic audio! Now I can scrap My PC! I have used 7.4, and the elastic features are much more diverse than that of acid, and keeping it all in one environment is priceless.......PT is all you need!

As far as sound libraries go, you can never have enough of them......because on mans trash is another mans dinner! some are expensive, but well worth it.

Buckaroo,

I use everything from ProTools, Logic, to Soundtrack Pro and analog tape machines to do sound design. If you are creating ambiances, it can be anything from room tone or wind recordings to highly designed and layered combinations of natural and synthesized sounds. You can use everything in your book and a combination of all of them. If your primary tool is synthetic sounds, Logic Studio is a lot of bang for the buck, but Digidesign has made some huge strides forward in their virtual instrument and midi implementation over the last couple of years.

I use Protools, Reaper (new favorite-the new pitch, stretch and effects king of DAWs), my recorders, effects I know well and most importantly my creative mind.

I've used many Sound design tools and the one I like the most for Pro tools is called: X-treme FX by ultimate sound bank.
Great library and flexibility via a midi controller.
let me know if you need help with something.
