Default No Sound on Digi001!! Help!

I did a search and found some similar problems on Digi002's, but no Digi001's. Everything was working fine when I left two weeks ago, and now I come back and no sound comes out the speakers or headphones. This is in a college studio, and one other prof had the keys to the room and occationally uses the computer for internet/email (although I wish she wouldn't). Anyways, it's possible that she may have accidently changed some settings, but I tried everything I can think of and I can't get it working again. It records fine, it just won't playback through the monitors or the headphones. I tried playing test tones ane everything else I could think of, but no sound will come through the monitors or headphones. I really hope it's a software problem, but I'm afraid it's something worse (could the DAC in the '001 have died?).

If anyone has any advice or solutions, Please Please get back to me. I have a project with the students coming up and I need this to be working. Thanks,

-Peter

is monitor mode engaged? That will disable pro tools sound from the outs and just route in's 3/4 to the outs.

Sounds like it could be the culprit...

I wish that was it, but it wouldn't even output sound when I had mics plugged in. Just to be sure though - there's no other way to toggle between monitor modes other than the switch on the face of the '001 right?

If anyone else can think of anything, I really need to get this working...thanks.

Check that the cable between the 001 box and the pci card is fully inserted. The so-called locking tabs are not effective and even a slight tug on the cable will result in it being partially disengaged from either end. The lights light but no sound or digital hash is what you get. Try swapping in a known good cable if that does not fix it. More symptoms would maybe lead to other suggestions

Good luck---I know that sinking feeling all too well.

I'll definitely try that out tomorrow. Sound does go in though - it just doesn't come out. I can record and it will show levels for both recording and playback, there's just no sound comes out...

Thanks for the help again though

that's really weird- if it's not the mon. mode button (which won't pass sound from mics either- assuming the mics are in 1 or 2), maybe the output of your master fader on your session got switched?

I tried opening different sessions - no sound from any of them, so it's not the master fader or anything like that. I called Sweetwater (bought the system from them) and Digidesign today...neither had any ideas. I'm going to make one more plea for anyone out there to help me figure this out.

If not, I'm going to have to buy a new system within the next week, and that will most likely mean getting a new mac too since right now I'm running it on a G4 426. Urgh...that's going to be a lot of money I don't have.

Please Please Please help. Thanks,

Peter

I would check the "thru" mode (depressed) on the monitor mode button with something plugged into 3-4 inputs, to make shure that the problem is earlier in the chain.
Then I would make a fresh install of OSX and PT on a separate disk, run a fresh session from it, and if that didnt work I would think I had a hardware problem, the 001 box.
That´s what I would do.
