Default Update 7.3 TDM to 12

A couple of years ago I bought an PT HD upgrade for PT 12 with an activation card and iLok. For various and mostly useless reasons and excuses, I never did the upgrade, but would now like to.

Current system is PT 7.3 HD2 on a 2006 cheesegrater and 192's for the interface. I've read threads here and all over trying to find out if I can upgrade using this gear, or do I need to purchase HDX cards and interfaces.

Advice is appreciated.

TDM cards only go up to 10.3.10, if you want 12 you need HDX

But the 192's will work on the newer cards(HDX and HD/Native). Since you have the cheesegrater, a used HDN card(around $700) might make good sense.

Having said that, what are the specs of the Mac and is it compatible with PT12?

I've been looking for one, that price is not too bad. I'll keep at it. Right now I'll go to 10, but I'd rather go to 12.

thanks!

Also, Dave, I meant to add, if I upgrade only to 10, I can keep this Mac 1,1 and upgrade to OS 10.6, I've already added 16GB memory.

If I can find an HD Native card, I'll need to get a new cheesegrater to get all the way up to 12. So, I'd be looking at a 5,1, at least 16GB memory.

I had not realized that an HD Native PCIe card would do what I needed. I kept thinking I would need an HDX capable I/O along the lines of a new model 192.

so, more research is required. Thank you!

Ben
