Default Moving To Intel Mac- couple of questions

Hi DUC,
I'm thinking of taking the plunge and finally buying a new Intel Mac G5.

I currently have been using a Dual 450 Mhz G4, so I'm looking foreward to the performance improvements. One question- how much RAM do you recommend I buy? At the moment, I have 1 Gb in my G4, and it seems to do pretty well, but I imagine that the G5 will want quite a bit more. Do you think 2 GB will suffice for using PT?

Also, will I need to re-buy all of the Massey Plugins in Intel-Mac format, or can I download the Intel-Mac versions and use my previous codes? A little OT, I know, but many thanks for any advice...

Cheers,
Andrew

HI,
aah, are you talking about the G5 PowerMacs or the Intel Core2Duo iMacs???
I think there never was a G5 iMac, as far as I know.

so far for the Intel Macs, most apps are happy with 2GB of RAM, that is:
depending on the size of the Sample libraries you want to use.
Otherwise the old saying still holds true: the more the better!
But I´ve seen few people who REALLY utilized more than 4 GB RAM.
This also holds true for the G5s.

SO the optimum for the moment would be 3 GB since 2 is the minimum, IMHO.

About your plugs I´d ask Steve Massey directly. I´m sure he knows

There is no such animal. It is either an Intel Mac or a PPC G5.

Then I mean an Intel-Mac...

Thanks for setting me straight!

Is this a tower or MacBook? In my experience, if you are using any virtual instruments, 2GB is a minimum, more if you can afford it. I did run a G5 for the longest time with 1GB but it was a pain when using more than one VI. 3 or 4GB should be quite sufficient.

As to Massey, as already suggested, contact him directly. A great guy and I'm sure he's not looking to rip anybody.

Best of luck with your purchase.
