Default BIG Mbox Problem ???

Hi

How could it be that I can´t even record one track for more than 1min without getting a Error message with my Mbox an 1,5GHz powerbook, running Tiger 10.4.2 and PTLE 6.9.2 ???

I always get a message saying that my drive is too slow... I know that it´s only a 5200rpm drive but not even ONE track ???

I feel cheated here. How mobile am I ?? powerbook, mbox and a external harddrive ?? doesen´t feel that mobile anymore if you ask me..

anyway. What can I do ? can I fix it with some settings or is there no way around a ext harddrive ??

Before i had a iBook G4. and with that computer I could atleast record without any truble. :-/

any comments ???

Did you follow all the suggestions in the OSX / PT6 general setup and troubleshooting thread?

I have the same problem if I don't plug the laptop into a power outlet. It's too draining for the battery I think. It's mobile with a drop cord.

yes I have read everything.

The strange thing is. That without a mic conected to the Mbox I could record for hours. As soon as I conect a mic and start to record something I get the error message.

It really feels like the drive is too slow (cuz it have to word harder when there is a audio signal comming in or?).

But it can´t be that slow that I can´t even record one track !?!?!??!

Any one else??

I had the same problem:

- set your playback buffer size to 1024
- switch off any bluetooth and airports on your powerbook!
- use original USB cable directly to USB port of powerbook (no USB hub)
- check if there`s at least 20gig of free space on your hard disk

should work

Are you using a phantom powered mic?

No, the system doesn't work harder when there is audio signal.

no, I use a dynamic microphone without phantom power.

Could the problem be the powerbook ???

or is it the Mbox ?

How much ram?

I have a PB867, w/ 620meg. I'm running 6.7 and 10.3.9 though. I have absolutely no problems recording to the internal drive (I know I shouldn't) and with recording using phantom power with the battery.

Only thing is my battery (now 3 1/2 years old) doesn't last as long as it used to

I have Tiger/6.9.2 on my G5 and its way less stable.

Maybe go back to Panther boss?
