Default Workaround for sidechain delay compensation?

What are you guys doing as a workaround for sidechaining not being delay compensated properly?

EDIT: I think I came up with a proper/clever workaround.

1. Bussed Kicks to a new Aux track using and Send
2. Set output of new Aux track to the Master
3. Took note of the delay comp value (in this case 8053 samples)
4. Changed output of new Aux track to my bass sidechain bus
5. Put Time Adjuster plugin on new Aux track and set to 8053 samples

And now my kicks are hitting my sidechain compressor in time. Only problem is you would have to keep readjusting the Time Adjuster value anytime you add or remove other plugins, I would assume.

Actually, I don't think that worked well. It's hitting in the plugin on time, but the bass is ducking way off time.

A few of us figured out a nice workaround a while ago... Post 10 is a good summation of the whole process.

OK, so I was on track with the workaround I came up with. I think my problem is that because I was using a bus instead of a duplicate, my source track was sending delay induced audio to my bus. Gonna try again with what you posted. Thanks!

This trick seems to not be working in 12.8. Been using this on almost every session and now a session I'm working on, it's hitting way off time. Anyone else seeing this?

Default Re: Workaround for sidechain delay compensation?

My workflow is based on the delay compensation working for the monitor output. I haven't tested it since 12.8, but it worked on 12.7.1 for me. As the delay compensation works for the monitor path in non-HD it is important to have every bus routed to the monitor output somehow - all the timing is adjusted relative to the main out.

- The source audio has a send routed to sidechain bus (I usually set it pre-fader).
- The sidchain bus is inputed to an auxiliary input as well as directly in the plugin that needs the sidechain.
- The auxiliary is set to the monitor output, with volume turned down so it is not heard, and is muted. This is a dummy track to keep the sidechain compensated.
- If you need plugins on the sidechain, create a master fader for the sidechain bus.

This is useful because you never have to work out the numbers as the session grows. If you need the trigger to be early (ie, setting the sidechain early by the attack time of a compressor):

- Duplicate your audio track for the trigger, slip the audio early by the desired lookahead amount.
- Route the duplicated track to the sidechain input.
- Create the dummy auxiliary as before.

Hope that works for you!
