Region naming has changed

In a heavy edit session today, I noticed that the way names were assigned to edited regions was different than before today....

Before:

Split whole file called "IVT_JohnDoe_01" results in regions "IVT_JohnDoe_01-01" and "IVT_JohnDoe_01-02"
Split whole file called "IVT_BillSmith_01" results in regions "IVT_BillSmith_01-01" and "IVT_BillSmith_01-02"
Split whole file called "IVT_PatBrown_01" results in regions "IVT_PatBrown_01-01" and "IVT_PatBrown_01-02"
Split whole file called "IVT_SueJohnson_01" results in regions "IVT_SueJohnson_01-01" and "IVT_SueJohnson_01-02"
etcetera....

Today:

Split whole file called "IVT_JohnDoe_01" results in regions "IVT_JohnDoe_01-01" and "IVT_JohnDoe_01-02"
Split whole file called "IVT_BillSmith_01" results in regions "IVT_BillSmith_01-03" and "IVT_BillSmith_01-04"
Split whole file called "IVT_PatBrown_01" results in regions "IVT_PatBrown_01-05" and "IVT_PatBrown_01-06"
Split whole file called "IVT_SueJohnson_01" results in regions "IVT_SueJohnson_01-07" and "IVT_SueJohnson_01-08"
etcetera....

I've never seen this behavior before. It was keeping a running total of separated regions. Any idea what's up?
