waves ver 4 authorisaation from old laptop advise

Hi,

My colleague has version 4 waves renaisance and masters on his powerbook g4 OS 10 and wants to have them authorised onto his new ibook? Waves wants to charge £600 to back date his wup to transfer to ilok!! but can he somehow transfer the authorisations accross to his new laptop without the $1200 fee.

The Waves Update Plan renewal is only necessary if your colleague needs to update to the current version of Waves or wants the current bonus plugins, support, etc.

Have him contact Waves at 865-909-9200 x2 and we will look into his options on a migration to iLok.

Now I am really steamed!!!!!!

I spent many emails and lots of time on the phone to do just this and was told I was OUT OF LUCK.
Is this a change in policy?? I found both your phone support and your internal sales/ customer service manager rude/short/ and basiclly uninterested in helping me. The whole attitude was YOU ARE OUT OF LUCK.
Now I think we are all deserving of an explanation. You have come on here trying to make it seem like this isnt a problem for him, for his sake I hope its not, but I am sure I am not alone in what happened to me.
Funny thing is for the extra few hundred you guys "stole" from me, I've told my story to anyone who talks to me about recording software and have specificly talked 4 people out of getting involed in Waves software. So who is really winning in the end?

Email correspondences, forum posts, etc can sometimes be misinterpreted as short or rude since they generally are right to the point and don't have a lot of fluff. Certainly a rude or short reply to you was never intended, and we regret it was taken this way.

Regarding your case specifically, you needed official Waves G5/Tiger and ProTools 7 support that required the updates associated with a Waves Update Plan renewal. Version 4 Waves does not include G5/Tiger or ProTools 7 support.

I am showing that you have several additional WUP bonus plugins that you have not enabled in your account at this time. Please call us direct and we'll assist you with this.

Im going to just post this and then take it private again, but what you are saying isnt the entire truth. I had version 4 running in Tiger and 7- it wasnt optimized for it - but it WORKED. I needed to move from my G4 to my G5 to finish up a long running project. You guys didnt care. It was all about the money. I was actually covered by WUP at one point and i feel entitled to the ilok auth. I didnt take it because i didnt need it at the time. Didnt realize that it would be removed from my waves account when WUP expired, and when i did need it, it was gone. Tech support was rude. The emails I received were short and offered very little in a way to get things done. After sending long explainations of my problem- I was offered was this
"To move to a new G5 and ProTools 7 will require several updates from Version 4. The only solution I have for you is to renew your WUP coverage on your bundle and update."

Even though I clearly stated that V4 was working for me- and all I wanted was to auth V4 again.
So like I said- you got my money- for the last time- and you are losing more and more business with each potential customer that comes through my studio.

My Q on the Waves forum: Is it possible to change a V4 Challenge/Response without WUP in an iLok assett? Was first answered with:
"Yes this is correct.
Contact our sales office at 865 9099200 ext 2 and they will assist with the iLok authorization."

But now they write:
"The system will not allow iLok authorization with out a valid WUP.
However, Waves Sales can examine each case and help with exceptions cases."

WHAT EXCEPTIONS?????

And WHY exceptions?????

Is this the kind of customer treatment that YOU can decide who´s a good boy and who´s not?

I can´t believe that this is the same company I´m spending my money since 8 years.

Thank you waves, i can report he has been given ILOK authisation now for his version 4 waves, so he can easily move his plugs to his new laptop! means we can work closer together on our projects.

Hopefully this is how it is for everybody who makes a reasonable request for £1000 worth of plugs purchased 3-4 years ago!

Im really stunned, and now I'm angry again. No offense and I'm glad things worked out for you. This is all I asked for to begin with and was repeatedly turned away. I'm sure I'm not the only one. I had said I would keep this private, but now I think differently. I would like Waves to come back here and explain to existing and potiental customers what just happened. Why some customers are treated differently than others. Its just another chapter in this mess that they created.

I am going to guess that Waves Customer Support will not come back here with anything useful. I would appreciate Digi leaving this thread open as this affects a lot of PT users
