Default 10.4.9 + intel + waves : is it safe?

I've been following the other 10.4.9 threads -
obviously the combo updater is the way to go
waves has said to hold off on 10.4.9 but
I saw on the HD forum that a waves tech had said the problem was with Logic not PT.
Seems PPC people are happy.

I've definitely experienced some buggy OS behavior in 10.4.8
(random freezes in FireFox, iTunes, etc.)I would love to update and see if my OS works better.
(and yes I have a 10.4.8 clone)

Anybody out there specifically with intel/waves setup having any problems (or success)?

thanks

Default Re: 10.4.9 + intel + waves : is it safe?

I'm running 10.4.9 on both PPC and Intel, both have waves, and both are fine. I've had one crash on my intel machine since updating the OS, but I believe I traced it back to an incompatible plug (non-intel version on an intel machine). Other than that one instance, I've had no problems, but I had no problems with 10.4.8. I believe I only had 3 or 4 crashes over the course of 2 or 3 years running OS X. Usually, I knew going into it; it was because I was doing something stupid to overload the computer.

jre3132 - thanks for the reply

just curious....so you never had any unexpected freezes/crashes on your intel mac in 10.4.8?
(iTunes, Safari, FireFox, etc.)
I've seen some posts on Apple's forum regarding this bug. It's driving me crazy (I've done some troubleshooting to no avail)....I hope 10.49 fixes it!

thanks again

yeah I saw that, but as I said in my original post..
A guy on the HD forum said he spoke with a waves tech...and the waves tech said that logic was experiencing problems with 10.4.9 (not PT)

I'm looking for intel PT/waves users that have actually made the upgrade to 10.4.9...
how's it going?

thanks

Well, I guess I can't say never. I did have a few but they were so rare that I barely remember them. I had some that were caused by me. One was caused by me being an idiot and accidentally selecting all in the applications folder and hitting the open command...I don't know what I was doing, I went brain dead for that moment I guess.

Over a long time of having OS X, it has been the most stable OS so far (my opinion). I was extremely stable on OS 9 too though. I am extremely particular about system maintenance and filing (I rarely have more than 2 icons on my desktop - not counting the hard drives of course). Another rule I stick to is not having any drives connected that aren't being used during a PT session. If I'm not recording to it, it isn't on. It’s just more for PT and the OS to sort through.

It is very rare that I crash in PT or any other application. That has held true for OS 9/PT 5, OS X PPC/PT 6 and 7, and now OS X Intel/PT 7.

maybe the term "never" is too strong.... but my crashes are "memorable" because they keep happening. Like yourself, I am also very particular about system maintenance issues. My problem is that my new MacPro is freezing/crashing on a regular basis (every couple of days) while running basic apps (FireFox, iTunes, etc.) Interestingly, I have NOT had any crashes in ProTools.

Most importantly - I did not have these recurring problems on my PPC G5. I believe the freezes are Apple/intel related. I'm just wondering if others have experienced this problem on intel computers (I've seen it mentioned on the mac forums)

My hope is that 10.4.9 will address these freezes - hence my desire to upgrade....but ProTools is my top priority. I don't want to screw up ProTools to "fix" iTunes.

Some have suggested that a usb device could be the culprit. If it is a usb device problem...then what?

thanks for all help
