Default PT LE is constantly freezing and running extra slow

I have a Pentium 4 processor 3.06GHZ and 1GB of RAM running Windows XP. For some reason, Pro Tools has been running a lot slower out of nowhere, I've even saved all my sessions onto an external hard drive and its still freezing while I'm editing as well as recording. Please help, any suggestion could be useful.

Reading these links may help. Posting a Sandra report may help(sisoft Snadra Lite for free). Your system at best, is at the absolute bottom end of the power chain for running PT. At worst, you may be running something improperly, like using a USB drive or recording to the system drive(we can't tell without the Sandra report). Assuming you have everything compatible and properly configured, then the question becomes' what has changed"? Do you have Windows Automatic Updates turned on?(should be off). Did you recently install some new plugin or some new program(even unrelated to PT)? DO you have a backup of your system drive that was done when all was well(a highly recommended practice)? Lots of questions here so post the Sandra and we'll try to help.
